Welcome to the Ratatype Curriculum! In today's digital age, typing has become an essential skill that everyone should possess. Ratatype is an online typing tutor that provides a comprehensive curriculum to help students improve their typing skills. So, let's dive in and discover the Ratatype Curriculum.

Ratatype's course on the English QWERTY layout comprises 15 lessons that focus on teaching users how to learn and memorize the keys of the world's most widely used keyboard layout. Let's look at each of them.

1. Home Row Position

9 exercises

The first four lessons are dedicated to learning the location of letters on the keyboard. By the end of these lessons, students will know where to find any letter on the keyboard.

The home row keys are a set of keys in the middle row of the keyboard that include the letters A, S, D, F, J, K, L, and ;. By placing fingers on these keys, students can maintain a comfortable and efficient typing position and easily reach other keys without looking down at the keyboard.

This lesson will help you remember where the keys of the home row position are located. Exercises consist of repeating learning keys and short words which contain relevant keys.

2. Index Fingers

19 exercises

Learning of the keys pressed with index fingers. Exercises consist of repeating learning keys and short words which contain relevant keys.

3. Middle and Ring Fingers

5-8. Repetition

12+5 exercises

Repetition is the key to success. Lessons four through eight are devoted to repeating and reinforcing learned keys. The first 12 exercises of each lesson consist of one word, which should be typed several times. And the last 5 exercises are exactly the same and contain 12 words from the first 12 exercises.

9. Vowels Сryptogram

5 exercises

There are no words without vowels. In this lesson, the exercises consist of "words" that contain only vowels, in order to memorize their location on the keyboard once and for all.

10. Alphabet Сryptogram

5 exercises

The exercises in this lesson consist of random combinations of letters. And the letters are chosen in such a way as to improve the flexibility and dexterity of the students' fingers.

11. Common Combinations

17 exercises

This is a special lesson dedicated to teaching Common Combinations. There are several letter combinations that are frequently used in the English language, such as "th," "er," "in," and "ed." This lesson will help them develop muscle memory for these common combinations.

12. Numbers and Punctuation

15 exercises

Now let's move on to learning the fourth row of the keyboard. This lesson is about learning the arrangement of numbers on the keyboard. But let's not forget about the letters either, the exercises will alternate — learn the location of a pair of numbers, then repeat these numbers together with short words.

13. Using the Shift Key

7 exercises

It is important to practice using the Shift key when learning to type so that you can develop good typing habits and improve your overall typing speed and accuracy. It will be very tempting to use Caps Lock, but it is important to refrain. Also, it will be more difficult to practice with the Shift key, but it is the only way to learn to type faster. All the exercises in this lesson focus on typesetting from upper and lower case letters.

14. Numbers and Punctuation 2

19 exercises

Perhaps this is one of the most difficult lessons. Return to the study of the fourth row of the keyboard, but now using the Shift key — remember the location of the signs. Lessons are formed in the same way as in lesson 12 — learn the location of a pair of signs, then repeat these signs together with short words.

15. Sentences

That's it! All the lessons are finally done, and it's time to practice typing real sentences. In this lesson, you need to type well-known proverbs and sayings, improving your typing skills.
